The medical genetic laboratory at the National Center of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics was established in 1989 at the University of Jordan, Faculty of Medicine, and in 2005 it was transferred to the NCDEG by agreement between the two institutions. Throughout the years the laboratory has provided both, the Jordanian and Arab communities, with medical diagnosis of regionally common genetics diseases and syndromes, in addition to the consultation services with specialized physicians and clinical geneticists.
The medical genetic laboratory conducts several research projects including research on most common Arab diseases. These initiatives have contributed to reducing the prevalence of these genetic diseases, and increase the awareness within the community regarding these conditions.
Under the umbrella of The Higher Council for Science and Technology, the NCDEG genetic laboratories continue with their activities, with scholarly research being a key component of the Division's activities, together with diagnostic services. We also focus on forming strong partnerships and collaborations with various specialized genetic institutions worldwide, in order to provide the best care for our patients and further enhance our services.
